The Sant Pol de Mar Town Council and the Institute of Photographic Studies of Catalonia (IEFC) announce the first edition of the Joan Guerrero Sant Pol DOC Prize, as part of the Festival Internacional de Fotografia Documental de Proximitat that will be held on 9 to 15 October in this coastal town.
The award is open to unpublished local documentary projects on any social theme. The Joan Guerrero Sant Pol DOC Prize has a value of €2,000 . In addition, some of the submitted projects will be exhibited through the Festival’s production. Registration is already open on the competition website and participation is free. Works must have been created by authors connected to the region that is documented whether it is their place of origin or residence.
One of the main objectives of the prize is to “highlight the informative value of photography projects that have no space in the media because they are local and intimate in nature or far from the interests of the news agenda,” explains Festival Sant Pol DOC director Isidre Garcia.
Joan Guerrero Joan Guerrero is one of the most notable photojournalists in Catalonia. He was born in Tarifa and migrated to Santa Coloma de Gramenet. He is known for his committed view of people’s daily lives, far from major events. Guerrero has collaborated with news outlets such as El Periódico, La Vanguardia or El País.
